Upstate, SC -- August 13, 2007 -- CommunitySouth Bank & Trust (OTCBB: CBSO) recently participated in the American Cancer Society’s (ACS) annual Relay for Life, raising more than $3,000 for research to help fight cancer.
The Bank’s newest branch, located at 530 West Wade Hampton Boulevard in Greer, held several fundraising events to raise money for the cause. The team was led by Greer Teller Supervisor Jennifer Polson and participants included Greer Branch Operations Manager Casey McPeters and Mauldin Teller Supervisor Lisa Jackson.
The Bank began their efforts at Fuddruckers in Greer, waiting tables for tips and donating their earnings. The Bank also held a yard sale, donating the proceeds to ACS. On April 30, the Bank gave away CommunitySouth koozies and pens to Chick-Fil-A customers in return for the restaurant donating 25% of its sales during the three-hour period to the ACS. Other fundraising events included selling bracelets and luminary bags for the ACS.
While CommunitySouth received generous donations from employees and customers, the Relay for Life event held on May 18 and entitled “A Night with the Stars” was the Bank’s largest fundraising event.
Relay for Life is an overnight event designed to celebrate survivorship and raise money for ACS research and programs. During the event, teams of people gather and take turns walking or running laps. Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all times. The teams seek sponsorship through pledges and donors prior to the Relay. CommunitySouth’s team, with a theme of Charlie’s Angels, sold freshly baked cookies and coke products from their signature refreshment center during the Relay, donating all money raised. The Bank also raffled off gift baskets containing gift cards donated by local Greer businesses.
The Bank raised a total of $3,352.25 for the ACS through their fundraising efforts, surpassing their goal of $2,500.
“My grandfather was diagnosed with lung cancer over three years ago,” said Polson, the Bank’s team leader. “This issue really hit home for me and participating in this important event was a great way to make a difference in our community.”
“This is a great cause and a wonderful way to make a difference,” said C. Allan Ducker, III, CommunitySouth’s Chief Executive Officer. “We are a locally owned and operated community bank and make it a priority to give back to our community. We were pleased to be a part of this fundraiser.”
Founded in 1913, the American Cancer Society is one of the oldest and largest community-based voluntary health organizations with over 3,400 local offices and more than two million volunteers. The ACS is dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by prevention, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer through balanced programs of research, education, advocacy, and service.
